Tuesday, August 26th, 2009: Crews were dispatched to assist police with extricating a person too weak to walk out of the woods.  The patient was with a Pa Game Commissioner, about 1/4 mile off the Dead Man’s Hollow path.  Police and firefighters first had to find the men, using audio calls and flashlights.  Once found, a medic assessed the patient’s condition and started treatment.  It was determined a rope rescue was going to be needed to extricate the person out due to his weakness.  During the clearing of a path, a firefighter was injured by a chainsaw and had to be tended to and extricated out of the woods as well.  He was transported by ground to an area hospital.  At last report, he is going to be ok.

Central and Greenock rescues established the rope rescue system and the man was packaged into a stokes basket and extricated out of the woods and transported to a local hospital.

Liberty also had crews on scene assisting with the extrication.

We would like to thank Liberty, Central, Greenock, Elizabeth Twp EMS, and the stand by units for all their assistance.   Best wishes go out to the injured firefighter.
