During the evening of Monday, December 27th, 2010, crews were alerted to a single vehicle accident with wires down on Liberty Way, between Taylor Drive and Virginia Drive.  Crews found a truck on top of the guardrail that had taken out a utility pole that had guide lines attached to it.  Duquesne Light responded to the scene and removed electrical hazards.

Engine 184 handled the scene, while Ambulance 610 blocked Liberty Way at Bellbridge Road.  The roadway was also closed at Washington Blvd & Liberty Way by member’s personal vehicles.

A friend of the driver brought a backhoe to help remove the truck off the guardrail.  Mendlowitz Trucking was also on scene assisting with towing duties.

No injuries occurred.  Also on scene were Lincoln police, Liberty police, Glassport Police, and Elizabeth Twp EMS.

Reminder our December monthly meeting has been moved a week later to Wednesday December 15th.

Crews responded to a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Lovedale Road and Fuerher Drive shortly after noon.  184’s engine crew assisted with traffic control and helped Elizabeth Twp EMS with packaging the patient.  Shortly after returning to the station, Engine 184 responded with a crew of five to Ash Drive in Elizabeth Twp to assist with a working residential structure fire.  After being on scene for a while, Chief 140 had us return to our station to standby while they finished cleaning up their scene.

Please attend this great cause and make it even better than last year.  Although not required, please try to pre-register so that the blood bank knows to bring enough workers.

The date is Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Please click on the below link to view the official flyer:

For the second year in a row, crews were alerted to a structure fire on July 4th in Lincoln Borough.  This year, it was on Virginia Drive at approximately 3:30am.  Garbage cans and the outside of a house caught on fire and luckily the resident was awoken by the fire and was able to extinguish it with a garden hose prior to fire crews arriving on scene.

Lincoln Engine 184 and Liberty Rescue 183 crews performed overhaul, ventilated, and checked for extension.  Elizabeth Twp EMS responded to the scene and Chief 184 had Port Vue Station 237 stand by in their station.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause.

On Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010 Lincoln crews handled two calls.  Around 5:30am, Station 184 was alerted for a water condition inside the residence in the 4400 block of Liberty Way.  A water line broke inside the residence and caused water damage on the first floor.  Engine 184 responded and assisted with water removal using brooms and shop vacs.

Later in the evening, police requested our department for tree removal of a tree that blocked both lanes of Harrison Road.  Engine 184 responded with a full crew and cut the tree up and cleaned up the debris.

On May 22nd, 2010, our department took part in a training session held at the Copperweld complex on Allegheny Square in Glassport.  Glassport and Allegheny County officials setup multiple training scenarios simulating haz mat and rescue situations.  The training was also a great chance for the neighboring departments to familiarize themselves with the complex itself, in case any incident would occur there in the future.  Many local departments were there and took part in the training.

During the weekend of May 15th and 16th 2010, members from Lincoln VFRC attended a class at the Pittsburgh International Airport ARFF Training Center.  Other companies attending included Crescent Twp, Ohio Twp, Jefferson 885, Imperial, and Wilkins Twp #3.  The course was taught by Deputy Chief Brian Colella and assistant instructors Tom Bonura and Brian Nolan from Station 100.

Class members learned about hose relays, drafting, and tanker shuttles.  The training included both classroom and practical sessions.  Over 3000 feet of 5″ hose was laid on Saturday putting into practice the use of multiple engines for a long relay.

On Sunday, Imperial’s engine drafted from a dry hydrant connected to a pond, and fed Lincoln’s, Ohio Twp’s, Crescent’s, and Jefferson 885’s tankers which dumped their water into dump tanks.  Tanker 100 drafted from the dump tank and used deluge guns to simulate a fire incident.  During the iterations, the minimum flow was 600 gpm and at times the gpm reached 1500 gpm.  The shuttle practical proved that with a proper setup you are able to move big water.
